ESA's aim in the satellite communications field is to contribute to the competitiveness of the European and Canadian private sector by providing a lead in research and development (R&D) activities and by forging partnerships within the industry.

ESA Telecom is the department of the European Space Agency (ESA) responsible for co-ordinating, shaping and supporting innovation in satellite communications. The Telecom department is part of ESA's EU and Industrial Programmes Directorate (D/EUI).

Securecom Technologies successfully completed the R&D stage of the Wireless Personal Alarm in September 2005.

Working with the European Space Agency has created many more opportunities for Securecom than would have otherwise existed. Solid networks have been formed with businesses and organisations right across the participating countries.

"Our involvement with ESA has focused us on what we are really very good at, making technology concepts into actual working devices. The core technology created during the ESA project is applicable to a vast array of market sectors and industries, and is not limited to the Satellite industry" Dr Pat Hartigan, CEO of Securecom

Securecom are looking forward to working with ESA in the near future.
